NEXT MEETING
Wednesday 16th April at 9.00pm
IN PERSON at the Bell Inn, Hampton
SELECTION FOR THE SPA INTER-CLUB DIGITAL IMAGING COMPETITION.
This month we will select our entry for the SPA Clubs Dpi Competition. Here is the link to the SPA website with competition rules, deadlines and last year’s results: as you can see, we did very well in the Nature category, so let’s see if we can go one higher this year – and let’s see if we can improve our ranking in the Open Class too!!
We have asked all members to submit their five best images in each category for selection and hopefully we will have a fun evening voting for our best images – and comparing our ideas/scores with those of the judge who is reviewing them for us! If you’re a Member and if you have not yet uploaded your images, please contact me – details below.
Come along to the meeting and enjoy the images, even if you are not submitting/taking part!
LAST MEETING
This was our AGM, draft minutes and action items will be sent out shortly. It was encouraging that nearly all members were present to engage with the meeting and share images afterwards.
Main points are:
- Continue with existing quarterly cycle of meetings with presentations by one “higher profile” photographer and one “local photographer” and the third being sharing and reviewing members images.
- Visitor’s fees are unchanged at £5.00 for “higher profile” and £3.00 for other meetings.
- Annual membership increases by £3.00 to £38.00 for full year.
We were also able to congratulate Mike Eaton on his image “Female Deer Watching Starlings,” which came first in the public vote followed very closely by Rosie Littlemore with “Out of the Blue.” Jacquelin Magnay and Mike Eaton came joint third with “Stags in the Mist” and “Adult Fox in search of food” respectively. The trophy was presented at the end of the meeting.

FINALLY:
SPA / PAGB Awards
As announced in last month’s newsletter, the SPA is hosting the PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit (APM) adjudication on the weekend of 22-23 November 2025 at Tiffin School in Kingston. Full details about the awards are on the PAGB website – https://thepagb.org.uk/
To help SPA club members interested in applying for a PAGB Award for Photographic Merit there will be a workshop on Saturday 24 May at Shirley Methodist Church, Eldon Ave, Croydon CR0 8SD (it’s where Croydon CC meets). The workshop will primarily be for those who are considering or who have already applied for the November adjudication with time for individual advice which will be provided by four members of the AMP team led by Rod Wheelans, the Chair of the APM Committee.
The cost of the workshop will be £25 per attendee and places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis with places allocated once the individual has paid. SPA is sharing this workshop with the Kent County Photographic Association.
If any of you would like to attend this workshop please email David Smith at berentyphoto@gmail.com and he will provide further details.
Printing your Images
As has previously been announced, the Kent County Photographic Association (KCPA) is hosting a Print Workshop which is on Sunday 18 May at Ditton in Kent. SPA club members are welcome to attend this workshop, the cost of which is £13. Representatives from Epson and Fotospeed will be in attendance and access to top–tier printing equipment and paper will be provided. Special offers on paper will also be available. All of the details are on the KCPA website – https://www.kcpa.co.uk/2025/
Whitton Photographic (our neighbouring club) has an Exhibition of work from 5th to 24th April at Whitton Community Centre, Percy Road, TW2 8JL There’s still time to support them:

For something a little different:
The Central Group of London Independent Photography (LIP) are holding an Exhibition of work from April 15 to April 20, 2025 at The Espacio Gallery, Bethnal Green Road.
In a world where everyone seems to be shouting, have we forgotten how to listen?
Listening actively is about awareness and understanding, an openness to absorbing everything we are exposed to, being mindful of the world we live in, the places we visit and the people we meet. But …how do we make ‘listening’ visible?
Opening Hours: Tuesday – Saturday: 1pm to 7pm | Sunday: 1pm to 5pm
Private View: Thursday, April 17, 2025, 6pm to 9pm
Meet the Artists: Saturday, April 19, 2025, 3pm to 5pm
